Reading Goal 2012

Goodbye 2011

Well, 2011 is rolling to a close and it's time to tally the books I've read. It's been a great year of some great reads. The Shiver series, Delirium, The Iron Queen and more.

I've added to my favorite authors list: Maggie Stiefvater. Yay!

Now for the sad part, I did NOT reach my reading goal of 52 books this year. I didn't even keep up with how much I read last year... I blame the homeschooling!!  :)  I didn't count any books I started, hated and didn't finish. I didn't tell anyone about those, because for those of us who are obsessed with finishing what we start... they were a failure. Boooo! I didn't include any books on writing or self help books either... Although now that I think about it, I SHOULD then I would reach my goal!  Hahahaha! But I'm seriously only counting Fiction this year!

Regardless, it was fun racking up 37 books even though last year I read a wopping 42. My 2011 self was a bit of a slacker. Oh well, better luck next year!

And now to list the challenges in which I participated... and lost most, except ONE!

2011 eBook Challenge

Loser number 1: I didn't read a whole lot of books on the Kindle I got for Christmas last year. I read only 15 books out of the 34 which means I really only read 44% of books on my electronic device. Hmm...

15 out of 20 books

2011 Shifter Challenge

Loser number 2: This was an interesting challenge. I signed up to read 12 books with a main character who shifted forms. For example: werewolves. I only found 6 Shifter books that seemed remotely interesting this year:

BEAST by Donna Jo Napoli  ~ Beauty & the Beast retold
THE LOST SAINT by Bree Despain ~ Werewolf
FIRELIGHT by Sophie Jordan ~ Dragon
SHIVER by Maggie Stiefvater ~ Werewolves
LINGER by Maggie Stiefvater ~ Werewolves
FOREVER by Maggie Stiefvater ~ Werewolves

It was difficult to find really good books in this category, but I just found out there is a second book to FIRELIGHT that I need to add to my reading list. Cool!

6 out of 12 books

2011 YA Reading Challenge

BUT... I did achieve at least one goal: I read 27 Young Adult novels this year! Sweeeet! I want to thank the academy for teaching me how to read!

27 out of 20 books

AT LEAST I REACHED ONE GOAL, said the underachiever!  ;)

Hello 2012

So, now that I know that nothing changes an underachiever, not even making goals... I am going to set my reading goal for 2012 at: the same as this year:  52 books!

I think that is an achievable goal. I think certain circumstances blocked me from reading when I wanted to read, but now that homeschooling is going well, I think I can do it! I am also fatally optimistic! I like the idea of reading one book a week, especially when I can usually read a good sized book in about 3 to 4 evenings.

Can't wait for the books coming out in 2012: PANDEMONIUM by Lauren Oliver (Book 2 of Delirium--I must find out what happened to Lena!), BITTERBLUE by Kristin Cashore (2nd companion book to my favorite Graceling), and more...

Not to mention that HUNGER GAMES will be on the big screen in March! Woohoo! BREAKING DAWN Part 2 will be out in November.

What ever your goals for 2012 may be, good luck and may the force be with you!

  2. Hunger Games was great! I am still trying to decide whether I should let my 10 year old read it. (Some of her friends have read it.)
    It's great but grusome!

  3. Ha ha! "Great but gruesome." That about describes it! I didn't really like the third book though.
